Is Stress Or Perfectionism Compromising Your Quality Of Life?

For those of us who are motivated, highly achieving, and career-focused, it can be easy to over-identify with our professional goals at the expense of self-care and a healthy mental state. Stress and feeling overwhelmed are commonplace, often leading to perfectionism, ruminations, and worry. With work and other responsibilities taking up a lot of space in our lives, there isn’t much left for anything else.

In addition to feelings of burnout and exhaustion, other physical symptoms of anxiety can take hold, including digestive problems, headaches, and insomnia. In some cases, panic attacks may occur, presenting as heart palpitations, hyper-alertness, sweating, and an impending sense of doom.

Distracted by discomfort, staying present and connected with those around us is hard. Instead of looking to our relationships as a source of comfort, they can easily become a source of pain—leading us to make unhealthy comparisons, question our worthiness, and avoid or withdraw from others.

At Lumin, our therapists understand the toll that anxiety can take on the lives of our clients. We recognize that you want to feel confident in yourself and like you don’t have to work so hard to be validated. Fortunately, therapy is an opportunity to slow down, relax your mind and body, and restore the energy that anxiety has taken away.

The Distress You’re Feeling Is Anxiety

Anxiety is experienced among a wide range of individuals, spanning age, gender, and background. It’s even more common among those with demanding, high-stress careers. The stress can be remarkable within these populations, and a lot rides on the notion of “success,” wherein any element of failure isn’t an option.

Beyond the individual pressure we put on ourselves to succeed, certain social, cultural, and workplace norms perpetuate work-related stress and anxiety in general. In many industries, workers are expected to perform at a high level consistently. Mental health and wellness concepts have only recently been introduced into workplace conversations. Beyond this, many of us contend with gender roles and cultural expectations that add to the pressure to be perfect.

Whether we’ve developed the belief that we’re isolated in our struggles or that anxiety is an unchangeable fact of our lives, we may not recognize how therapy could substantially improve our mental and emotional fitness.

But Lumin is not your average counseling practice. We are intentional about de-pathologizing and normalizing anxiety treatment. Our practice's peaceful, cozy, and welcoming atmosphere makes you feel connected and supported on your healing journey.

Lumin Tailors The Treatment Process To Your Needs

Our clients are special, and we intend to treat them as such. With therapists who have been hand-selected due to their background, experience treating anxiety, and commitment to the process, we are here invested in making your vision of a happy, healthy life a reality.

What To Expect

We aim to help you gain insight into the thoughts, behaviors, and situations that cause distress. Guiding you through increased emotional awareness, coping, and resilience, we personalize the counseling experience to address your particular anxiety concerns.

Because we’re used to working with intelligent, high-achieving individuals, we understand the value of psychoeducation and providing our clients with resources to help them tackle challenges outside of the therapy space. Beyond the work you do together in session, your therapist is likely to recommend workbooks, lectures, and other resources to facilitate a deeper understanding of your anxiety.

During sessions, your therapist will offer strategies for coping with immediate challenges (including panic attacks and other physical symptoms) as well as deeper reflection into the experiences that may be compromising your ability to maintain mental, emotional, and relational health. With this holistic approach to therapy, you’re more likely to gain the skills you need to address your anxiety on every level of mind, body, and spirit.

Our Therapeutic Approach

We use various treatment approaches depending on each client's presenting concerns. For anxiety treatment, in particular, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a meaningful way to reduce negative thinking patterns and regulate the body’s stress response. We also focus on Positive Psychology when treating all our clients. As an aspirational practice, we are more interested in what is possible than what is “wrong.”

Furthermore, Lumin is unique because career coaching is a central tenet of our practice. For clients struggling with work-related stress and burnout, our coaching services can help clarify goals, set effective boundaries, and encourage self-advocacy.

We aim to help the people we work with develop a strong sense of agency, confidence, and control over their challenges. Committed to motivating our clients toward the most authentic, fulfilling vision of their lives possible, we don’t want you to feel better—we want to support you in finding your life’s joy, purpose, and meaning.

Still Unsure If Therapy For Anxiety Can Help You?

If I need therapy, it signals that I’m weak or broken.

Clients seeking therapy often do so because they’re invested in their personal growth and finding a better way of life. Getting help signals maturity and motivation, acknowledging the importance of emotional awareness, personal insight, and self-care.

With us, you will never be shamed, judged, or viewed as “broken.” Rather, our therapists will treat you with the compassion and respect you deserve. It takes courage to ask for help, and we will be with you every step of the way.

I’m too busy to seek counseling for anxiety.

We understand that many of our clients have high-stress jobs and familial responsibilities that may prevent them from committing to therapy. For this reason, we provide all of our services online via a HIPPA-compliant platform with evening and weekend times available.

I see you don’t accept insurance; I’m not sure therapy is worth it if I pay out of pocket.

Treatment is an essential investment in yourself, your relationships, career success, and overall quality of life. You can’t put a price tag on a healthy, functional mental state.

Remember that if you have out-of-network benefits, we’re happy to provide you with documentation to submit a claim for reimbursement.
